Research Interests

Professor Lam’s research focuses on the development and characterization of biomaterials for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. His work includes investigating cell-material interactions, scaffold design and fabrication, and the biomechanical properties of engineered tissues. This research aims to advance understanding of cellular responses in engineered environments and improve strategies for tissue repair and replacement.

Our interdisciplinary laboratory, comprising clinicians, engineers, and biologists, is dedicated to applying and developing micro/nanotechnologies to study, diagnose, and treat blood disorders, cancer, and childhood diseases. This unique "basement to bench to bedside" approach to biomedical research is enabled by our lab’s dual locations at the Emory University School of Medicine and the Georgia Institute of Technology and our affiliations with the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta hospitals.

Teaching Interests

Teaching Interests

Professor Lam’s teaching interests encompass core biomedical engineering subjects at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including biomaterials, tissue engineering, and cellular biomechanics. His instructional approach emphasizes a strong foundation in engineering principles applied to biological systems. Professor Lam is dedicated to mentoring students through hands-on laboratory experiences and interdisciplinary projects that integrate concepts from engineering, biology, and medicine.
