The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering continues to offer one of the nation's best undergraduate biomedical engineering programs, earning the no. 2 ranking in the nation in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The recognition reinforces the department's longstanding reputation for educational excellence and innovative student experiences that prepare graduates to lead in the biomedical and biotechnology industries.

"Being recognized once again as one of the nation's top undergraduate biomedical engineering programs reflects the exceptional dedication of our faculty, staff, students, and alumni," said Alyssa Panitch, chair of the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering. "Our program is intentionally designed to prepare students to become leaders and innovators in biomedical engineering by combining rigorous academics with hands-on research, clinical exposure, and real-world problem-solving. This ranking affirms the strength of our unique partnership between Georgia Tech and Emory University and our commitment to preparing graduates who will shape the future of human health."

Coulter BME's undergraduate curriculum provides students with a strong foundation in engineering principles while immersing them in opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Undergraduate students engage in cutting-edge research alongside world-renowned faculty, participate in study abroad experiences that broaden their global perspective, and collaborate across disciplines to address complex healthcare challenges.

A hallmark of the undergraduate experience is the department's capstone design program, which introduces students to the full spectrum of medical technology innovation. Working in multidisciplinary teams, students identify unmet clinical needs and develop solutions while gaining exposure to product development, intellectual property, patent strategy, commercialization, regulatory considerations, and entrepreneurship.

That approach to experiential learning has produced remarkable results. Over the past four years, Coulter BME student teams have earned the overall top honor at the College of Engineering's Capstone Design Expo, demonstrating the department's continued excellence in innovation, teamwork, and engineering design.

Rankings for biomedical engineering programs are based on peer assessments by department leaders nationwide.
