Biography

Biography

Kelly Petty serves as the Communications Manager for the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Tech and Emory University. In her role, she manages the Department’s internal and external communications strategy to bring awareness to biomedical research among faculty and students. She has more than 13 years of experience in journalism, public relations, marketing and brand management.

She previously worked as a communications officer in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts at Georgia Tech and as a public relations specialist at Clayton State University. Prior to working within higher ed, Petty got her start in news reporting where she covered local, state, and federal government, politics, education and business at several outlets including ColaDaily.com, Independent Voter Network, and National Journal magazine.

Petty earned her bachelor’s degrees in journalism and Spanish from Georgia State University. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, volunteering for her community’s neighborhood association, and catching a good Netflix movie.
