Emory-Georgia Tech team develop new tools to address parasitic infection that affects 250 million people in 78 countries
Researchers, including BME Assistant Professor Aniruddh Sarkar, have developed a new diagnostic tool for schistosomiasis, a neglected tropical disease affecting millions. Current tests often miss early or mild infections, but their machine learning-based approach identifies active disease by analyzing antibody patterns. This method improves detection, leading to earlier treatment and better outcomes.
The collaborative project between Sarkar, machine learning expert Jishnu Das, and infectious disease expert Jessica Fairley, associate professor at Emory University, allows for more accurate and efficient diagnostics.
