Research Interests:

Dr. Qiushi Ren is currently MOE Chang-Jiang Distinguished Professor, Winner of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars, and Chief Scientist of National Key Basic Research Project "973 Project:Basic Research on the Key Issues of Visual Function Recovery For Blindness". From 1990 to 1994, Dr. Qiushi Ren was an assistant professor of Department of Biomedical Engineering, University Miami. From 1995 to 1998, he was an associate professor of the Department of Ophthalmology, University of California, Irvine.

Dr. Qiushi Ren mainly engaged in the study on basic theory and technical research of laser medicine. Based on the comprehensive and in-depth research on key issues of visual optics and visual function restoration, he put forward a serial of new theories or new methods. Most of them are put into practice or converted to up-to-date medical equipment. Under the conduct of Dr. Qiushi Ren, the research group also uses laser technology as a means of physical regulation to research the mechanism of skin collagen’s restoration and reorganization. According to the analysis of a serial of in-depth research result, some laser therapeutic apparatus with minimally invasive were developed and put into clinical application. Aiming at the early diagnosis of major diseases and minimally invasive surgical application, molecular imaging diagnosis based on optical scanning technology, multi-photon spectral imaging technology, near-infrared Raman spectroscopy had been carried out by Dr. Qiushi Ren. Intelligent Minimally Invasive Surgical system had been applied to cure the pathological tissue. Within the scope of the related research field, Dr. Qiushi Ren had published more than 100 academic papers, made more than 40 academic reports around the world. He initiated and organized more than 10 times of the international conference or symposium. He had got 2 U.S. patents and 6 Chinese patents. He was also the associate deputy editor and editorial board member of many international and domestic magazines, such as "Interdisciplinary Sciences-Computational Life Sciences ", “Chinese Journal of Laser”, “Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation”, “ACTA Laser Biology Sinica”, “Journal of Clinical Rehabilitative Tissue Engineering Research” etc.

Currently, Dr. Qiushi Ren is the Chief Scientist of National Key Basic Research Project (973 Project). This project was supported by Ministry of Science and Technology with $4 million for study on basic theory and key scientific issues of visual function restoration. At the same time, he was also supported by 16 national level research project or program, such as National High-tech R&D Program of China(863 project), National Natural Science Foundation of China, MOE innovation project of university (111 project), and the major scientific and technological projects funded by Shanghai Science and Technology Commission.
