The Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering is training the next generation of research leaders at the interface between engineering, medicine, and biology in the academic, government, and industrial sectors. We have an innovative and integrated approach to educating our PhD students in the classroom, laboratory, and in their professional development. Traditional coursework and laboratory training empower our students with technical expertise, while innovative coursework and career development opportunities provide our students with intangible skills that are requisite for success in all sectors.
Our graduate students pursue research in approximately 80 different laboratories across Georgia Tech and Emory University and are funded from a range of mechanisms, through pre-doctoral fellowships from the National Science Foundation (currently 58), the National Institutes of Health, and other federal and private agencies, federally funded training grant programs, or investigator initiated support.
